My first review in 2 years! Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Rating
5 STARS

Summary

This is a world divided by blood - red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart...

Review
This book was alot more to  me than just another book to read. I decided to pick it up after hearing about it randomly on my facebook page. I read the summary, I saw the cover, it sparked my interest. What makes this book so special? It's the first book I've read in almost 2 years! That's one heck of a reading slump!

Starting this book meant coming back to my book blog, back to my twitter, back to this wonderful reading world! Let's just say this book had some big shoes to fill! The expectations were unimaginably high!

And I loved it!

The story fit perfectly for me. I mix of fantasy and adventure, peppered with a light romance (not too much but just enough)... seasoned to perfection! This book was so good I'm comparing it to food! ha! Red Queen kept me reading late into the night and during every break in my day! That, is what a book should do. A good story will keep you on your toes and this story sure does! The characters were so alive in my thoughts, they followed me into my dreams! You know your reading a good book when you try and put it down for the night and your brain decides to tell you "heck no we're not done!" Cal and Maven are two very handsome boys... in my dream that is lol!

All in all, I'm thankful I chose this book. Thanks to Red Queen, i'm eager to pick up my next read and continue my reading journey. This book reader is officially back! Red Queen did that! And from the bottom of my heart... to the book, the story, the beautiful characters,  and to the very talented author Victoria Aveyard...Thankyou!

  2. Welcome back!! YAY! It's always wonderful to return to reading! Glad you enjoyed this one too! I still need to read it myself! Have you read the prequel novellas yet? There is currently 1 and another 1 to come in some odd months! I haven't decided if I wanted to try reading that first prequel before the actual book or not. Sometimes I've found that despite it being a "prequel" novella, it's not always best to read it first! That happened to me with another series once and I quickly stopped reading the book after a few pages!

Again, welcome back and great review!
