Review: Delirium - By Lauren Oliver

 Summary
Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.
Review
This was yet another so so book for me. Worthy of at least three stars. It took me a while to finish simply because nothing really ever happened. I felt the relationship between the characters was a bit rushed. Did anyone else think she fell in love too easily? She lives her whole life afraid of love, of boys, of any contact with another person at all..and then one boy comes along and she's risking everything for him. It was just too much too soon for me. Alex was sweet but he wasn't that sweet. The only part that interested me at all was the mother. That was a clever little twist and I am slightly interested to see where that goes. The auther writes beautifully and I found a number of quotes that I will never forget but that wasn't enough to raise the rating. Three stars for me. I'll read the next one..if there is another. But I'm not dieing to read it. An ok book..an ok read.

  2. This book is still on my wishlist, though I'm a little discouraged by the idea of rushed relationships. I like romance to build fairly slowly. Great review!

  3. I thought it was the right speed for her falling in love, I´ve read soooooo many books where the characters see each other the very first time and are in love immediately, and in a relationship in the same speed.
The clue in Delirium was, that she thought he was cured, so she didn´t worry about the feelings that were growing in her, because it would never come so far that she would really break the rules. When he told her, that he was not cured, she ranned away in panic, but it was too late for her. Also you don´t really know what happens between them, they had (I think) over a month every day together, of course the feelings grow and they get closer, but Lauren Oliver wrote down only a few moments....
Anyway, I didn´t like the book that much, but I would give it 4 stars. I enjoyed the last 150 pages A LOT! (The other 300 pages were good as well, but as you said it didn´t happen much, so it was not a really exciting read...)
Thank you for your honest review^^

  5. Delirium was beautiful yet tragically devastating all at once. The end just left me in complete shock and the way it ended makes it seem so final which I strongly hope it isn't.

  6. The most horrifying thing about this society is that no one fights back. Even Lena who witnesses some of the atrocities firsthand has been so indoctrinated by the government that she accepts this is the only way to stay safe. She does not come easily to the other side, and it's that painful, heartbreaking, utterly real journey that has so ingrained DELIRIUM into my mind.
