Here's My Audiobook Review of White Cat by Holly Black

Summary
The first in a trilogy, this gritty, fast-paced fantasy is rife with the unexpected. Cassel comes from a shady, magical family of con artists and grifters. He doesn't fit in at home or at school, so he's used to feeling like an outsider. He's also used to feeling guilty--he killed his best friend, Lila, years ago.
But when Cassel begins to have strange dreams about a white cat, and people around him are losing their memories, he starts to wonder what really happened to Lila. In his search for answers, he discovers a wicked plot for power that seems certain to succeed. But Cassel has other ideas-- and a plan to con the conmen.
Review
This is a review on the audiobook version of White Cat. I think I should separate this review into two parts. One part relating to the audiobook and the second part about the story itself.

About the audiobook: I'll be honest. There were two reasons why I picked this book as my next audiobook listen. First of all.. The story sounded great.. Secondly... The nararrator is Jessie Eisenburg! (Zombieland)I'm a total Eisenburg fanatic so once I found out I'd be listening to his wonderful voice.. I just had to do it! I've gotta say, he did a pretty awesome job! He's definitely one major reason as to why I LOVED this audiobook and would recommend it to anyone! If your new to audiobooks and not sure what book to start off with.. Id give this one a try for sure.

About the book: The story itself was definitely interesting. I loved the world of curse workers and admired it for tons of different reasons. Mafia families filled with the most powerful of people, people being treated differently because of those powers... It all had a bit of truth to it sorta. I could honestly imagine a world like that. Make's you think! That's for sure. I loved the main character (possibly because I imagined him to look like Jessie Eisenburg) but mostly because he had a good heart, determined, smart, and very very clever. His schemes kept me nail biting till the end! As for the ending.. Well.. Let's just say... I've definitely gotta read part 2!

The only question left for me is... Do I READ part 2 because it's already sitting on my bookshelf? or should I buy the next audiobook? More Jessie Eisenburg???? Hmmmm tempting!

Either way.. Red Glove.. I'll be reading you soon!

  1. I read White Cat, and I loved it. I also have the audio book because it was a free download a while back and I saw that Jesse was the one reading it. I haven't actually listened to an audio book, but it's good to see that this is one to listen to. Great review!

  2. I love the Curse Workers series! I love the action, and darkness of it. I am dying to read Black Heart! Thanks for the fantastic review. I like how you split up the audio and the story. I am never sure how to review audio books.

    1. I'm thinking about waiting on Red Glove until it gets a bit closer to the Black Heart release! That way I don't have to wait too long to read it! :)

  4. I wanted to read this one when it came out, because, well, cats. The cover was amazing. The guy in the cover was cool. And a bunch of other, equally deep reasons *laughs*.

Anyway! I had no idea there was an audio for this one. I'm so going to pick it up now! I love audiobooks, and if you tell me the voiceacting is good, then definitely I'm going to give it a shot.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. That's usually where I listen to my audiobooks. Nothing better than polishing off a few chapters on the drive too and from work! :)
