Review: The Disenchantments - By Nina LaCour

Summary
Colby's post-high school plans have long been that he and his best friend Bev would tour with her band, then spend a year in Europe. When Bev announces that she will start college just after the tour, Colby struggles to understand why she changed her mind and what losing her means for his future.
Review
I tried going into this book with an open mind. The reviews this book's been receiving were enough to convince me it was worth a try. People say this book is AMAZING. I don't really feel that way unfortunately. I don't usually read light and fluffy reads often. Although I have read and LOVED a few in the past. But this book reader prefers drama, flat out emotional chaos, basically if a book can make me cry.. I'm gonna love it. This book... didn't really do anything for me. I was hoping it would, the summary hints at some drama, a bit of romance, a journey of self discovery. You'd think their journey would have a few bumps along the way. Right? At least throw a rock in the road at some point? Nope, didn't really happen, at least not to any meaningful point? It's a book about a group of friends that drive to a few cities to play music and meet people along the way. To me.. That's all it was. I just needed more back story. The characters were just characters to me, I didn't get to know them, and the parts I did learn were just flat. I won't say that the story wasn't entertaining, because I read it. I just wanted more. It was simply ok. Not really much else. Not bad, not great, just somewhere right there in the middle. Am I glad I read it... Sure! It's something different to add to my "read" list. Do I kinda wish I had read something else instead? Yeah.. maybe just a bit? 3 stars from me.

  2. Aww, really? I've been looking forward to reading this one, and I probably will still pick it up in the future, but I have seen a few 'just okay' reviews for this. Thanks for the honest review though :)

  3. I didn't think this would be my type of book. I'm not really one for those light, flufy reads either and prefer some drama. Thanks for the review!

  4. OMG! you feel towards this book the same way I feel toward Amy & Roger's Epic Detour!! Dude, I was so hoping for something really deep and meaningful but nothing really happened either. The reviews and rating were so high that I was expecting to cry.

Great review my dear, I am to read a different opinion this time since most reviews I have read say that this book is really awesome. Which I don't doubt, but it may just not be for everyone. Not everybody perceives a book the same way and is totally fine. SO thanks for the honest opinion my sweet!

    Take care!! muah!!!!! ^.^
