Official BookLove101 Rating:
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war. This is not that world. Art student and monster's apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it. In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life. While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope. But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?
This is my first official review of 2013. Coming off of a bit of a blogger break, I'm glad to be back and couldn't have picked a better book to start off my year in reviewing! Let's get right to it...
As far as this series goes. I was a fan from book one. The entire world has this sort of sparkle to it. It's a different story, entirely unique and mystical, and the adventure it shares with us.. worth every page.
Book one left us readers with one heck of a cliff hanger to cope with. I didn't take it lightly at all. I needed more, wanted more, BEGGED for more from this story. Now that I've gotten that little bit of "more".. I'm satisfied. FOR NOW! ;)
The adventure takes off right where book one ended. Our characters are changed of course. They've got a whole new set of battles to fight both internally and throughout their worlds. A love torn apart yet again by something so unfortunate so out of thier control. Heartbreaking to say the least! I felt that heartbreak along with Karou. Every step of the way. Did I agree with some of her actions? Hmmm... Not entirely. I'm still pretty fallen for Akiva.. Can't help it right? Most of this book is spent with out two star crossed lovers on completely different journeys. I waited ever so impatiently for thier worlds to collide and when it did. This reader couldn't put the book down! Forbidden love just does it for me. Can't get enough!
The story took twists I didn't see coming and left this book reader with an aching desire for more! The ending! Well let's just say.. I'm very very curious for what the author has in store for us! There's a whole world of possibilities this tiny reader brain can't even imagine! I'm ready for book three, that's for sure!
I have faith in you Karou! And Akiva.. Don't you dare give up on her!
Oh the emotions! I love it!
